As always when I write lyrics I'm inspired by Charles Baudelaire. I just can't help it. He is in my humble opinion the greatest poet of all time. This is clearly inspired by THE CARCASS. The intro inspired by THE RED HAIRED BEGGAR GIRL.

There are many homages within the song to movies, music and poems.

"I saw you in an orange grove" is taken from the movie IDENTITY.
The title is a variant of the poem "Chant d'automne (Autumn Song) by Baudelaire. The whole thing is inspired by the horrific crimes of Ted Bundy.
